Incredible, old typewriter becomes a wireless PC

An old-fashioned machine, a tablet of the latest generation an electronic board are the elements to build a "vintage" wireless laptop. The idea is of a Piedmontese informatics, who will exhibit the unusual PC to the maker Faire, from 1 to 3 December in Rome. Giuseppe Portelli, Ph.D. in computer engineering graduated from the Turin Polytechnic, started from a 1930 Royal Portable typewriter, restored and converted into a USB keyboard, connected to a side-mounted Raspberry PI 3. A tablet placed on the roller acts as a display using the Vnc desktop sharing protocol. Everything is powered by a battery housed in the wooden base of the typewriter. The project is called "Steampunk Typewriter Laptop". The PC is wireless, because the Raspberry is powered by the battery, the tablet uses its own battery and the connection with the screen is wireless. The typewriter also maintains the original operation - just insert a sheet and turn a pair of levers to bring it back into mechanical mode - and its typical sound, with the hammers beating on the roller.
