Digital innovation: agreement signed between the University of "Tor Vergata" and Aeronautica Militare

The goal is to carry out joint scientific and technical initiatives to promote the digital transformation of operational processes thanks to the introduction of "disruptive" technologies

The signing ceremony of an agreement between the University and the Air Force regarding the organization of joint scientific and military initiatives was held this afternoon at the Council Hall in the Rectorate of the University of Rome "Tor Vergata" techniques to promote the digital transformation of the aviation sector.

Based on "Logistics 4.0", which aims to decline the Industry 4.0 paradigm in aeronautical logistics, the activities will mainly concern the analysis of the impact that the most sophisticated ICT technologies - including augmented and virtual reality, additive manufacturing, intelligence artificial and machine learning, internet of things and big data analysis, to continue with cloud storage and computing, robotics, blockchain, 5G and cyber security - will have in the logistics sector of the aviation sector, bringing benefits in terms of increasing quality of service, cost reduction and change management.

«Today is an important partnership - said the Rector of the University of Rome" Tor Vergata ", prof. Giuseppe Novelli - who confirms the commitment of the “Tor Vergata” University in the field of the Third Mission, in the direction of an Academy that is open to business, institutions, the territory and other development actors. With a marked attention to the digital challenge that is profoundly transforming our society and is pushing more and more to innovate our paradigms, in every sphere of action ».

The Air Force General Giovanni Fantuzzi, Logistics Commander and signatory of the agreement for the Air Force, in his speech, wanted to underline how much this agreement is an opportunity, to seize and encourage change through interventions and concrete actions that encourage the work of university researchers, innovators and industry. «The goal - declared General Fantuzzi - is to introduce disruptive technologies and modify operational processes that take into account these“ disruptive ”technologies. The signing of today's Agreement is the result of the convergence of the will of the University and the Air Force - Logistic Command, to work with this spirit and in this direction. Only in this way will it be possible to stimulate that cultural and technological revolution, which in part is already underway, and which must represent the engine of the country system ”.

"As a Department of Business Engineering - said Prof. Francesco Vatalaro, Professor of Telecommunications at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of" Tor Vergata "and scientific director of the initiative - we are really pleased to start this collaboration with the Arma Aeronautics that we believe can increase the opportunities for our students and researchers to try their hand at solving real and avant-garde technological problems in close collaboration with a prestigious partner that operates in sectors characterized by strong innovation, strategic for the country system ".

The agreement signed today is part of the Framework Agreement of 2017, lasting four years, which formally launched the collaboration between the Air Force and the University of Rome "Tor Vergata" for advanced training, applied research and not, experimentation in sectors of common interest, such as aerospace, medicine and surgery, the design and management of airport infrastructures in a perspective of complete synergy.
