Artificial intelligence and help in investigations

(by Roberta Preziosa) What technological future is ahead of us, what is the new technological trajectory?

The new technological trajectory foresees developments in the field of nano technologies, materials sciences, "smart" industries, additive manufacturing, auto robots, Artificial Intelligence (AI), gene intervention techniques, battery technologies, will change life on earth only for the individual inhabitants but, above all, of the nations, this is the chariot of the new one that is running towards the future and on which every nation tries to climb in order not to fall behind.

Above all, the field of Artificial Intelligence is making great strides in all areas of application.

The field of security, for some time, has been organized to identify some strategic sectors on which to invest to solve some problems related to the facial recognition of the subjects through the use of cameras.

The quality of the cameras has increased considerably and already from the 2012, with the contribution of the American defense and DARPA (USA), Duke University and the University of Arizona, they devised a camera from a gigapixsel.

Today, the technological quality of filming is much increased and we are in the three-dimensional.

The photographic shoots refer to any subject, taken in their daily life (in the wild) and are based on the recognition of the face.

The goal is to achieve automatic facial recognition (AFR) of individuals.

For this, we need an analysis of the data and then the identification of algorithms able to give the answer to facial recognition in a very short time.

Startups were born in the distant 2009 in many countries, but the pioneers were the USA (Affective startup) and Israel (startap Sensority).

The field of investigations is elective for the application of Artificial Intelligence, not only for the purpose of recognition but, above all, for behavioral observation.

The observation can detect if the subject has a true or a lying behavior (lie detection).

The Visual Stress Analysis program of the Israeli startup measures the stress level of the subjects during the interrogation through the heartbeats and the change in breathing.

The American program, instead, has specialized its algorithm, also through training, on the changes of facial expressions, symptomatic to conceal hidden intentions.

The scope of the observation is vast, even Apple has acquired the startup Emotient in 2016 for its own analysis, as well as Microsoft and Google who are developing their own products such as Cloud Vision and Azure Emotion.

These are just a few examples of how Artificial Intelligence - supplanting the old lie detector, without using electrodes - can help society achieve higher levels of safety, if used correctly.
