Islam, the feast of the Sacrifice, the dissent of the vice president of the Milan Region

Fabrizio Cecchetti (Northern League), Vice-President of the Regional Council of Lombardy, on the recent Islamic sacrifice festival, said: "It is necessary to prohibit all ritual slaughterings, whether illegal or not, that are not accompanied by a preventive stunning of animals so they give us unnecessary and brutal suffering, respecting the European directives and the principle of the protection of animal welfare. Respect for animals is increasingly part of our culture and sensitivity to society and some cruel rites can no longer be tolerated by the institutions.

Cecchetti has submitted a question to Pirellone in which he reads "the Islamic slaughter, in addition to violating the simplest sanitary and sanitary rules occurs in the absolute absence of respect for animals, in fact during the slaughter the cattle are tied and slaughtered again alive". According to the evaluation presented by the Vice-President "In Lombardy it is estimated that at least 100 thousand leaders have been slaughtered for this rite, not counting those that were held in clandestine fashion in private homes, a phenomenon unfortunately growing on our territory. I have submitted a question to the Maroni Committee because in our Region it is unacceptable that in the 2017 there are still these types of rituals: an ancient religious tradition can not justify cruelty and mistreatment of animals. It is necessary to strengthen the controls and enforce the laws in force that already provide for penal sanctions for those who mistreat and kill animals, coming - concludes Cecchetti - to ban all slaughterings that cause unjustified and atrocious suffering to the poor beasts.

"Aid Al-Idha", the feast of the sacrifice, or "Aid Al-Kabir", the great festival, is the second major religious festival in the Muslim calendar after "Aid al-fitr", which follows Ramadan and marks the most important of the "Hajj", the pilgrimage to Mecca.

The "Aid" recalls the sacrifice made by the prophet Abraham, tested by God who asked him to sacrifice his son. Abraham obeyed even if he had only one child; to reward him, God replaced his son with a sheep when his father was about to cut his throat. With this sacrifice made by repeating the gesture every year, Muslims demonstrate their submission to God and his will. However, it is a "Sunna"; an act that is not obligatory but recommended by Allah to all Muslim families, able to do so.
