Israel: backtracking for Netanyahu on the issue of migrants

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suspended the implementation of the agreement reached by his government with UNHCR, which aimed at resolving the migrant crisis from African countries in Israel by transferring thousands of people to third countries.

The premier announced it a few hours later he announced the achievement of an agreement that involved the transfer of about 18 thousand migrants of which 16.250 in Western countries including Germany, Italy and Canada.

After the controversies raised by Germany and Italy, Netanyahu was then forced to point out that the countries mentioned were only general examples and not countries with which the agreements had actually been reached.

"I suspend the implementation of the agreement and will examine it again," wrote the premier in a post on Facebook in which he anticipates meetings with residents of southern Tel Aviv.
