A 2700-year-old clay seal found during excavations in the wailing wall area confirmed the ancient existence of a Jerusalem governor, as written in the Bible.

Archaeologist Shlomit Weksler-Bdolah commented: "The Bible mentions two governors of Jerusalem and this finding reveals that this position was held by someone in the city some 2700 years ago." In fact, Israeli scholars note that the Bible mentions two "Governors" of Jerusalem who lived in different eras: Yehoshua and Maaseiah.

The mayor has commented with enthusiasm the important discovery that in fact has certified Jerusalem as one of the oldest capitals in the world inhabited by the Jewish people since 3000 years.
