Italy promoted by the UN for the fight against corruption

According to the UN report on the fight against corruption in Italy "it is a report card that promotes Italy in a delicate sector and when an improvement is recognized, we must be proud of it".

These are the words spoken by Foreign Minister Enzo #Moavero Milanesi at the Farnesina, at the presentation of the second report on Italy, adopted as part of the second cycle of evaluation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC).

Moavero, commenting alongside the Minister of Justice Alfonso Bonafede and the president of ANAC Raffaele Cantone declared "Corruption certainly exists in Italy, but we are able to react and this report recognizes it, in a sector where Italians are often believed to be fallacious".

The minister also recalled that the UN convention "it has changed the perspective from which one looks at corruption, which is seen as a transnational scourge. And it undermines the elements of stability and security of society, questions democratic and ethical values, hinders the rule of law and the sustainable development of a country. For this reason it is very important to have an international attention on this phenomenon, thanks to a control between equals that allows to identify the best and worst examples and to undertake a virtuous path".

Moavero, in his speech, highlighted the importance and the capacity for prevention to make the “culture of legality grow in the citizen, which allows the citizen to have confidence in the institutions. "The duty of the state - then added the minister -is to cultivate any kind of initiative that can prevent, suppress and eradicate the corruption phenomenon".
