Kikar ha-Shabbat, Chief Rabbi, opposes the death penalty against terrorists

According to the Orthodox website Kikar ha-Shabbat, Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef (Sephardi) is opposed to the new law under discussion at the Knesset (parliament) which provides for the death penalty for terrorists held responsible for particularly heinous attacks.

Rabbi Yosef fears, as confirmed by the forecasts of the Israeli security services, that between the sentence and his execution of deaths, Israelis or Jews residing abroad could be killed in retaliatory attacks. Furthermore, the fear is that the law, in theory, could be applied not only against Palestinian terrorists but also against Jewish terrorists: "It is not up to men - he specified - but to God to decide whether and how they should perish: if, for example, in a accident, or due to illness ".

The other Chief Rabbi, the Ashkenazi David Lau, has not yet expressed himself on the matter.
