Kosovo is a truce for now

Europe and the United States have convinced Serbia to stop the protests in the north of Kosovo where minorities of Serbian origin live, softened by Aleksandar Vucic and invited to remove the barricades in Mitrovica and other northern towns. Vucic then revoked the state of alert for the Serbian armed forces and ordered the soldiers crowded on the border with Kosovo to return to their bases.

The reaction of the high representative for EU foreign policy was immediate, Food"Diplomacy has prevailed in easing tensions in northern Kosovo. Violence can never be a solution. “We welcome the responsible leadership of the Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic and the Prime Minister of Albania Albin Kurti. Great teamwork by the EU, Usa and Nato Kfor. Thank you all. Now we need urgent progress in the dialogue".

Even the United Nations welcomes détente. “Good on the measures taken to reduce tensions and excellent on the conscientious work undertaken by the international community, in order to guarantee the security and stability of the area, trusting now – said the UN representative in Kosovo, Caroline Ziadeh - cMay relations be normalized as soon as possible".

Vucic has received guarantees from Brussels, Washington and NATO on the protection of the Serb minority and for the leaders of the protests against any future retaliation by the Kosovo police authorities.

There would also be the opening of the European Union and the US to grant the municipalities of the north a special status. One way to officially recognize a legal form of protection in favor of Kosovar (Orthodox) Serbs who do not recognize the authority of Pristina. They ask for self-determination on a pro-Serb basis.

The Kosovar government has accepted the conditions even if the Serbian minority does not recognize its authority.

The next appointment will be the elections in the municipalities of the north after those scheduled for mid-December were postponed due to the unrest.
