This was the narrative used, at the time, with followers to discredit American healthcare activity, the Taliban argued that mass vaccination was a way to uncover crucial information, the popular slogan said: "By vaccinating your children you risk giving information to the United States, or worse."
In fact, it turned out, the US government had stepped up the vaccination program in Pakistan to track down Usama bin Laden. A new study has shown, however, that after this covert operation, however, all diseases in the region have decreased, polio, for example, at the time took a severe hit. In 2010, the CIA received information about Osama Bin Laden's presence in a Pakistani housing complex. To be sure of the indiscretion, the US counter-intelligence agency used a local doctor to administer hepatitis B vaccines to the children, then sequenced their DNA to trace the relatives in the housing complex that was the subject of the operation.
A recent study conducted by a Spanish center showed that, beyond the operational strategy, after the collapse of confidence in the vaccination program, the prevalence of polio has doubled in more Islamist regions. Today the disease, globally, is still present, in fact, in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
