The war continues. Ukraine announces its own weapons production while Putin enlists Cuban volunteers

(by Andrea Pinto) Vladimir Putin on the day of the celebrations for the annexation of the former People's Republics of Donetsk and Luhansk and the regions of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, through the Tass agency, congratulated the residents on this annual anniversary “truly decisive, historic and fateful".

Ukrainian President Zelensky, in response, participated in the International Defense Industry Forum throwing down the gauntlet to Putin with the announcement, supported by Biden, to produce weapons directly in Ukraine. In the prestigious international venue he invited 252 companies from 30 different countries to invest in Ukraine for the production of weapons. A way to not depend on Western countries whose internal consensus is starting to creak due to the tens of billions involved in a war that seems to have no end.

It is no coincidence that yesterday the US Chamber, to avoid the shutdown, voted on a budget proposal that does not include funding for Kiev. In the next 45 days, however, the various political parties will still be able to integrate the financial maneuver with additional funds which could include expenditure items in favor of the Ukrainian war effort.

The war will be long because all the indicators point in this direction and hence the need not to burden exclusively the Western coalition which in the long run, in light of upcoming important electoral commitments in the US and EU, could give in to internal political forces unfavorable to dispersing important resources in a seemingly indefinite war of attrition in the face of persistent inflation gripping modern economies in the post-covid era.

According to Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal, interventions for the production of weapons will exceed 2024 billion euros in 1.4. In fact, 38 foreign companies have already joined.

Kiev intends to build a modern and powerful arsenal to counter Russia by locating the production of the necessary equipment and advanced defense systems used by soldiers in Ukraine.

The Defense Industries Alliance - 38 companies have already given their availability - are encouraged to participate in the initiative, supported by the United States, because they could benefit from a special economic regime.

Among the interested companies is also the Turkish company Baykar, which hit the world news for its Bayraktar TB2 drones. The drones have recently undergone a major update which involves the replacement of the faster and quieter motor. Baykar announced an investment of $100 million for three projects dedicated to the conflict in Ukraine. A military advisor to Zelensky has announced that a special defense fund will be set up to attract military specialists from various countries and the creation of joint ventures with countries in the South of the world.

Moscow is running for cover as it waits to face its second consecutive winter at the front. Yesterday he announced the compulsory conscription of 130 thousand new recruits who will be employed in the occupied areas and kept on alert in case the front line requires further sacrifices. According to the US State Department, a campaign to enlist Cuban volunteers is also underway. Putin also announced that the Wagner Brigade will soon return to the front line under the leadership of Commander Troshev who has been appointed to the ranks of the Defense Ministry.

The former president Medvedev yesterday he was more direct with the announcement that the "special military operation" will not stop before the Nazi regime in Kiev is completely destroyed and there will be no other new regions within Russia.

In response, Ukrainian presidential advisor Podolyak was terse: “There are no new Russian territories or annexed territories, and there is no possibility that Russia will be able to maintain control of them. There is only the territory of Ukraine, including Crimea".

Meanwhile, the Ukrainians on the ground are slowly advancing while the Russians have started bombing energy infrastructure again, like an oil pipeline that was blown up yesterday.
