Sweden is the 32nd member of NATO

The Swedish flag has been flying at NATO Headquarters in Brussels since yesterday: it was hoisted alongside those of the other members of the Alliance. After two hundred years, Sweden abandons its position of neutrality by fully entering the Transatlantic Organization, alongside the other member countries in a particularly delicate moment for world balances.

Yesterday the Secretary General of the Atlantic Alliance, Jean Stoltenberg welcomed Sweden's membership with a ceremony in the Belgian capital, attended by the Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson , Princess Victoria of Sweden.

After Finland, Sweden also officially joined NATO last Thursday, after some moments of tension due to the delay in ratification by the Hungarian parliament. The push for the entry of the two northern European countries, the Russian-Ukrainian war which reopened old wounds with Moscow which has shown itself, in recent times, to be highly threatening towards all the countries of the northern area of ​​Europe, deploying military and new missile batteries on the Russian borders.

"It's nice to have you here.", Stoltenberg said. “Without your tireless support and personal commitment we would not be here. I realize that you would have made the same efforts for any qualified country that applied for membership. But if you wanted to make us feel special, you really succeeded. Thanks also to all the NATO allies who supported our membership and who welcomed Sweden as 32nd member of the Alliance. We are humble, but also proud“, commented Swedish Prime Minister Kristersson.
