(By Mario Galati) As the saying goes: "all the psalms end in glory ", in fact also in the trial for the environmental disaster of Sacco Valley, after almost 15 years of hearings, postponements for procedural errors, sentences, acquittals, there is no culprit. Actually there was one: the former director of Caffaro di Colleferro who was sentenced, two years ago, in the first instance by the court of Velletri to 2 years with suspended sentence and to compensation for damages to the civil parties, among the such as the municipalities of Colleferro, Segni and Gavignano in the province of Rome and Ceccano in the province of Frosinone.
However, with the second degree sentence of the Court of Appeal of Rome in recent days, the offense was judged as having lapsed. To be more exact, the Court of Appeal confirmed the sentence but judged the crime as having lapsed due to the effect of the Cirielli law.
"Stay on your feet - announces the retuvasa environmental association which had also formed a civil party - the possibility of recourse to the Supreme Court which we will evaluate by reading the reasons for this last sentence which will be produced within 90 days of the pronouncement".
"A conclusion, that of the prescription - Retuvas comments- that leaves a bad taste in the mouth. La Justice in our territory, as it was for the trial on the Colleferro incinerators, this time too demonstrates that for environmental crimes it is not a reliable tool.
