The anti G7 and NATO, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization

The summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (Sco) is not surprisingly organized while in Canada the G7 is taking place. It is no coincidence that even Trump had talked about G8, trying to include Russia, among the greats of the earth.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is a regional alliance led by China and Russia, which includes Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan and, since last year, also India and Pakistan. The summit, on the agenda, includes in-depth studies on cooperation in security and strategies for connecting the development plans of the member countries of the Asian alliance.

Trump's proposal referring to Russia was met with coldness by the Kremlin. "Russia is focused on other formats", was the reply, which arrived just as the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, was on a state visit in Beijing, hosted by his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, who awarded him the medal of friendship, established to reward foreigners who have contributed to promoting trade and cooperation between China and the world and to maintaining peace.

The SC summit will end tomorrow after dealing with common topics such as the struggle against extremism, separatism and terrorism, global governance and the multilateral trade system.

The summit will be inaugurated by a speech by Xi, where China will support the promotion of its Euro-Asian infrastructure connection initiative - the "Belt and Road" launched in 2013 by the Chinese president himself during a visit to Kazakhstan - tying it to the connection of the plans development of the member countries.

Iranian President Hassan Rohani will also be there as an observer of the summit, who will seek China's shore on Tehran nuclear power, following the announcement last month of the US withdrawal from the 2015 Vienna Agreement.

Sources close to the organizers talk about a surprise intervention by the North Korean leder Kim Jung un.

Also important is the presence of the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi who will meet with President Xi Jinping and other leaders on the sidelines of the summit. It is not yet known whether there will be an interview with the president of Pakistan, Mamnoon Hussain.

Regarding the Modi-Xi meeting, the Indian Foreign Ministry has anticipated that it will focus on the implementation of the decisions taken at the informal Wuhan summit on 27 and 28 April. The two leaders decided to strengthen the “Closer Development Partnership” starting from the already existing mechanisms, or to enhance communication at all levels, including the military one, in order to build mutual trust and understanding. But also to take advantage of the complementarity of the two economies, to collaborate to build an open and multipolar global economic order and to contribute together to face some global challenges, from security to the environment to the reform of multilateral institutions.
