Note to editors on the AW189 helicopter
The 8,6 tons AW189 helicopter is the most successful product in the so-called 'super medium' category, able to combine a wide range of action and autonomy and considerable load capacity, but with reduced dimensions and weight compared to most models employed on long distances. Developed to meet the growing market demand for a new multi-role helicopter equipped with such features, the AW189 can accommodate between up to sixteen passengers with standard equipment and up to a maximum of nineteen in high-density configuration. The controls are designed to ensure maximum awareness of the situation
operational, thus reducing crew workload and increasing safety. The AW189 also fully complies with the most recent guidelines on helicopter transport defined by companies operating in the Oil & Gas sector. The AW189 is the only one in its class to be equipped with a transmission capable of continuing to run regularly for 50 minutes in the absence of lubricant, well beyond certification standards, thus ensuring unparalleled levels of reliability over the long haul. The AW189 is also available with an advanced anti-ice system that allows operations in difficult environmental and climatic conditions. More than 60 helicopters of this type are already in service worldwide for transport and public utility tasks, including search and rescue, with more than 45.000 flight hours accumulated. 11 AW189s operate in Russia, one of which is already present on Sakhalin Island.
