Leonardo in the field for the STEM disciplines, will be an educational partner of the National Geographic Festival of Sciences

Scientists, philosophers, innovators, journalists, researchers and artists will take part in the National Geographic Festival of Sciences, the event that will be held in Rome from 16 to 22 April and to which Leonardo, a high technology company, will participate as an educational partner of laboratories and areas didactics dedicated to young and very young people.

“The initiative - underlines Gianni De Gennaro, President of Leonardo - testifies to Leonardo's commitment to the formation of a scientific culture among the new generations through the consolidation of 'scientific citizenship' as a fundamental element to face the challenges of the third millennium. Leonardo - adds De Gennaro - pursues the goal by supporting the dissemination of STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), thus contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined by the UN in the Agenda 2030 and aimed at promoting quality education, supporting innovation and responsible and sustainable industrialization ".

Leonardo's commitment in this direction has recently materialized in the opening of the i.Lab Matematica, in partnership with the Museum of Science and Technology of Milan, and in the participation in the educational workshops of the Gravity exhibition. Imagining the Universe after Einstein, set up at the MAXXI, the National Museum of the 21st Century Arts in Rome.

Throughout the duration of the Festival, thanks to Leonardo's contribution, the young visitors can freely participate in the workshops and activities in the didactic areas, with in-depth analysis on the central theme of the event: "the causes of things, that intricate network of causal relationships. effect that dominates any human activity ". For example, theories on the origin of earthquakes will be illustrated, through a seismic station station and on gravitational waves, thanks to the use of an interferometer and a gravitational "carpet". Still theories on weather forecasts and extreme events, with a laboratory dedicated to the study of matter, along with many other activities always related to the cause-effect relationship. The aim is to bring young and very young people together to stimulate their curiosity, involving them and offering the opportunity for direct contact with the world of research and technology.

Furthermore, Leonardo will make available to the Festival its international know-how in possession of advanced technologies, constantly engaged in research and innovation projects. Also taking part in the event will be Professor Amalia Ercoli Finzi from the Milan Polytechnic who, with Marco Molina, CTO of the Space business area of the Avionics and Space Systems Division, will meet the students in 20, also discussing the young guests of the Pinguini laboratory on Mars. It will be an opportunity to recount research experiences in the field of major international space missions, with a focus on the "conquest" of Mars, with ExoMars, and on technologies to capture elusive gravitational waves, one of the major challenges of astrophysics of our times.
