Leonardo for the development of the aeronautical sector of Southern Italy The AeroTech Campus is born, the new HUB for technological innovation

It was announced today, at the Pomigliano d'Arco production site, in the presence of the President of the Council of Ministers, Prof. Avv. Giuseppe Conte, the Vice-President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Economic Development, Labor and Social Policies, On. Luigi Di Maio, representatives of local institutions and Leonardo's top management, the birth of AeroTech Campus, the new HUB for the technological innovation of the Aerostructures Division.

The initiative, in addition to the launch of the AeroTech Campus, also provides for the re-engineering of the production processes of the Pomigliano d'Arco site and represents a first step towards relaunching the aeronautical sector of Southern Italy.

The AeroTech Campus, which also participates in the Federico II University of Naples, will host researchers, developers and new entrepreneurial teams involved in the development of frontier technologies to be applied in aerostructures, useful for ensuring and consolidating the current market leadership of Leonardo in the field.

Alessandro Profumo, Leonardo's Chief Executive Officer, said: "the challenge for the future of the country passes from its technological capacity and the growth of the South. Leonardo is a candidate to play a crucial role for the competitive relaunch of the Italian system through an investment plan that necessarily passes through a pact with the institutions. Our goal is to reverse the route and make our production facilities an excellence in the manufacturing sector. Leonardo is ready to do its part and we ask local authorities and central governments to invest in the aerostructures sector alongside us ".

Leonardo is the world's sixth largest producer of aerostructures for civil aircraft and operates in a market that includes 43.000 new aircraft in the next 20 years, to produce which will require production processes based on the use of new technologies.

For Naples, Campania is a region of great importance due to its historic industrial presence. Leonardo is the main actor of the Campano Aerospace District, he is present in the territory with five divisions and the Telespazio joint venture, for a total of over 4.500 employees. The activities of Leonardo in Campania guarantee highly qualified work in the production sites of Pomigliano d'Arco, Nola, Fusaro, Giugliano, Pozzuoli, Benevento and Naples, with an activity involving an extensive network of small and medium-sized enterprises. Collaborations with universities are an integral part of Leonardo's open innovation strategy, which aims to develop new technologies, skills, products and services and to enhance basic research, the benefits of which also benefit other industrial sectors.
