Alfano confirmed Rome's commitment to support the action of the UN Special Representative Salamé to encourage political dialogue between the various Libyan forces, hinging on the action of the United Nations.

With his colleague Siyala, met in New York a few days ago to discuss the stabilization process of Libya, Alfano reviewed the various sectors of bilateral relations, with particular reference to security and infrastructure development. Siyala expressed appreciation for the work of the Italian embassy, ​​of which Alfano announced a further expansion eight months after its opening.

The two ministers also agreed to work to restore the Rome-Tripoli flight to promote a further rapprochement in relations between the two countries. Finally, Minister Alfano and his Libyan colleague dealt with the issue of migration. The head of the Farnesina reiterated that it is important for Italy that specialized UN agencies, such as UNHCR and IOM, return to Libya, and that Libyan and Italian NGOs cooperate in support of the work of the UN, especially with reference to the management of migrant reception camps "'. On the occasion, the head of the Farnesina expressed the hope that Minister Siyala could participate in the OSCE Mediterranean Conference 2017, of which Italy holds the presidency, scheduled for 24 and 25 October in Palermo.
