Libya: after three years, it reopens the port of Benghazi

The commercial port of Benghazi was reopened today after three years of inactivity due to the fighting in the city between the Islamic armed groups and the military forces led by General Khalifa Haftar.

Currently, there are two governments that are fighting Libya: the UN-backed government led by Fayez al Sarraj, and a government not recognized by the international community, which is headquartered in the East controlled by General Haftar.

The opening of the port, however, took place thanks to Abdullah al-Thani, leader of a parallel government who came aboard the first cargo ship which, heard by France Presse and referring to the victory of Haftar's troops against the terrorist-obscurantist groups, he declared: “We thank God that justice has prevailed against injustice. The entry into port of this cargo ship with medicine and food on board represents a huge challenge to the obscurantists who used it to bring weapons to terrorists ”.

To stimulate commercial activity, the Benghazi port authorities have announced a temporary exemption from customs duties on imports of goods.
