Libya, Salamè today from Moavero Milanesi: "carry forward the UN Ghadames summit"

Today in Rome, Foreign Minister Moavero Milanesi will meet the UN special envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame. The appointment after those had in recent days with the Emirati and Qatari colleague. Despite Trump's phone call to Haftar, Italy intends to pursue inclusive policy with all the players in the field. A policy that will also be underlined in the summit of political directors of France, Great Britain, the USA, Italy, the Emirates and Egypt convened today in Rome.

The idea is to exhume the UN special envoy Salame with the hope that he will bring home the reorganization of the skipped UN summit in Ghadames. On the ground, however, writes La Stampa, the situation appears more complicated, and not only because Tripoli and Misurata add the sine qua non of Haftar's return to Benghazi to the negotiating plan of Rome after an immediate ceasefire. Yesterday news came of an armed assault on the detention center of Qasr Ben Gahshir, a suburb south of Tripoli where the forces of Tripoli and Haftar are fighting furiously. At least 2 of the approximately 980 migrant prisoners in the center were killed but the dynamics and above all the aims of the action remain unclear. On the other hand, clear is the photograph returned by the UN of at least 35 displaced persons in Tripoli, that is to say Libyans fleeing the war.
