Macron doubts that Trump decides to keep the Iranian nuclear deal

According to the head of the Élysée, Emmanuel Macron, President Donald Trump will abandon the Iranian nuclear agreement.

Macron's comment comes after his talks with the White House tenant aimed at dissuading Trump from his intentions. On the occasion of an event organized at George Washington University addressing reporters, he said: “My point of view, I don't know what your president will decide, is that he will abandon this agreement on his own, for internal political reasons. - It may work in the short term but it is insane in the medium and long term ”.

Macron does not therefore seem to have succeeded in his mission to "save" the Iran nuclear deal, despite the good relations that characterized his visit to the White House.

For BuzzFed, however, he said the visit was a success because a potential framework for understanding was outlined between Washington and Tehran in the plausible case of a collapse of the nuclear deal. According to Macron Trump, “he is someone who makes deals. He wants to find an agreement and he wants to find it on his terms ”, and he defined the White House's approach on Iran as“ pragmatic ”and not ideological.

“His experience with North Korea is that when you are very tough you shake the other side you can try a good deal or a better deal. It is the strategy of growing tension - he continued - and it can be useful ”.
