US Secretary of Defense James Mattis will meet his Indian counterpart Nirmala Sitharaman today during his two-day visit to India. According to the US embassy in the country, Mattis' visit aims to emphasize that Washington is a reliable partner of New Delhi and that the two states have a wide range of mutual interests, but also to reiterate the US appreciation for the efforts of the 'India aimed at supporting stability and democracy in an Afghanistan. This is the first visit by a high representative of the United States administration to India since the election of Donald Trump.
