🎤 Medicine, new drug against premature ejaculation

Finally for the 4milioni of Italians suffering from premature ejaculation is available in the pharmacies of the Peninsula the first spray specifically indicated for such dysfunction: contains 2 pre-dosed local anesthetics (lidocaine and prilocaine) and acts in 5 minutes, temporarily blocking the transmission of nerve impulses in male sexual organ, reducing its sensitivity and thus dilating the timing of the relationship. The medicine, presented today in Milan, is marketed by Recordati which has acquired exclusive rights for the European market. It is by prescription and the packaging, sufficient for 12 applications from 3 'puff', the recommended dose, costs the patient 39,40 euro.

According to expert estimates, premature ejaculation affects 20-30% of Italian males and "it is important to underline that it is a disease, the most important male sexual dysfunction, says Vincenzo Mirone, professor of Urology at Federico University II of Naples. In 80% of patients has a genetic basis and is defined primary, while the remaining 20% suffers from secondary premature ejaculation: men who up to about 50 years have ejaculated normally, until they have suffered pathologies such as prostatitis, erectile dysfunction, thyroid diseases or others, which caused the problem to arise.

But what does the clock say under the sheets? "If a so-called 'normal' sexual intercourse includes a duration of 6,7 minutes from penetration to ejaculation, the specialists specify, an ejaculation is defined as premature when it is less than 2 minutes (mild) or under one minute (severe ) ". And if for secondary premature ejaculation it is possible to intervene on the cause that generated it, in the case of the primary the risk is to suffer from it for the whole life, with “serious consequences that affect the well-being of the couple.

That's why, urges Mirone, "it is important that the patient is promptly evaluated by a specialist doctor (urologist or andrologist) to identify the correct solution".

Today the therapeutic arsenal for premature ejaculation has been enriched with a specific topical drug able to solve this problem ", the urologist continues. "The effectiveness of the product manifests itself thanks to the extreme rigor of the formulation, assure the experts, studied in a specific way for this pathology, that guarantees the penetration of the active principles in the mucous layers of the glans, carrying out its own action in a targeted way".

The new spray is called "manageable, effective and safe" and promises to bring peace to many bedrooms, considering that "the 30% of couples find in the disease grounds for dissatisfaction".
She is most affected by this: "The impact of premature ejaculation on women is extremely negative, highlights Alessandra Graziottin, director of the Center for Gynecology and Medical Sexology at the San Raffaele Resnati Hospital in Milan - and can lead to the wear and tear of the relationship, if you think that 52% of women with sexual problems (especially anorgasmia) have a partner with premature ejaculation, compared to 24% who has a relationship with men with normal ejaculation. The most common reason for discomfort for women is the lack of attention on the part of man, which focuses on its performance without thinking about the needs of the partner ".
"All the domains of female sexual functions (desire, excitement, orgasm) - observes the specialist - are significantly influenced in women partners of men with premature ejaculation.

For this reason, before the relationship deteriorates definitively, timely diagnosis and treatment are fundamental ".

The 'retardant' spray was approved by the EU Agency of the Ema drug in November of the 2013. Registered in Italy and in many other European countries, the drug has passed the examination of international clinical trials mentioned during the Milan meeting. The first trial was completed in August 2003, demonstrating "a significant efficacy in increasing the mean latency time of intra-vaginal ejaculation". Since then, the product has been the subject of several clinical trials between the United States, Canada and Europe, on more than 1.100 enrolled. The last pivotal trial was completed in July 2009 and "the drug significantly increased the intra-vaginal latency time of at least 6 times compared to baseline".

The hope of the insiders is that the new therapy can limit the dangerous phenomenon of do-it-yourself. Among the 'speedy gonzales' of love "there is also another big problem - reports Gaziottin - which is that of 'self-prescriptions', adopted by about 50% of men and that in some cases may be harmful to health, as the consumption of alcohol (41%) or drugs (17%) ".

"The web channel is just as dangerous - warns Mirone - used to buy non-specific remedies, most often counterfeited and therefore potentially harmful. In this case, however, we are faced with a specific drug for premature ejaculation, which must be prescribed by a doctor and purchased at the pharmacy.
