At the end of the meetings in Washington, the premier Giorgia Meloni from Villa Firenze, residence of the Italian ambassador to the USA, mariangela zappia, explains the new Italian international posture: “I had been anticipated by false propaganda, which had portrayed the hypothesis of a government as a disaster for the stability of international relations, economic stability and institutions. But in reality what has emerged is a serious, reliable, credible government, which resolutely poses the issue of the national interest, ours and that of others. When we pose the theme of the Mediterranean and Africa, this does not only concern Italy but the role of the West. And our partners see that we are credible".
The US president echoed them on Twitter Joe Biden: "I look forward to continuing to build a close relationship between the United States and Italy".
At the beginning of September, the head of the Italian government will return to the US to participate in the United Nations Assembly and meet investors and big names in Wall Street finance. He wants to structure the enormous representation of Italian-Americans by also organizing the entrepreneurial part between giants such as Pfizer, Amazon, Eni and Fincantieri.
Meloni also met Henry Kissinger with whom he exchanged views on China ed artificial intelligence. On AI Meloni said it will be a theme that will lead to next year's G7 organized by Italy: "We have always had progress that helped improve our skills but without ever questioning the centrality of man, now the risk is to replace it with technology, and this must be frightening: the impact on the world of work can be devastating. OnAfrica In addition to the EU, Meloni also attracted the attention of President Joe Biden who, according to the Italian premier: "you noticed an awareness of an issue that I try to explain in every multilateral context, but I also seem to recognize the awareness that Italy can play a role of spokesperson, of leadership, precisely because of the ability it also has to understand, shall we say, the point of view of African countries. Probably without our role it would have been more difficult to reach an agreement between Tunisia and the EU”.
On the China the premier of the Bel Paese commented as follows: “We are the only nation on the Silk Road between the G7 and European countries but we are not the nation that has the best data on trade with China. Far from it. One can have good relations and trade relations with China regardless of the Silk Road“. As unwelcome as the decision may seem, Meloni intends to communicate it to Xi Jinping directly as a matter of deep respect. The idea is to go on an official visit to Beijing.
On China, the US continues along the path traced out at the G7 in Hiroshima, that of economic resilience and minimization of risks. This line is, in fact, an assist for Meloni when he will have to explain to Xi the reasons for the Italian retreat. However, Xi may not agree to the visit that Italy has planned, the Chinese do not easily digest the "no".
