The ICQRF Department of MiPAAF and the National Center for Intellectual Property of Georgia Sakpatenti have signed an agreement concerning the adoption of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation for the protection of Geographical Indications in the agri-food and wine sector.
The initiative is conceived as a natural follow-up to the Twinning Project GE 16 ENI EC 03 18 "Establishing Efficient Protection and Control System of Geographical Indications (GIs) in Georgia", a project funded by the European Union and aimed at strengthening the control system of IIGG in Georgia which took place from 1 February 2019 to 31 August 2021 and which saw the ICQRF Department and the Ministry as Senior Partners.
The agreement will make it possible to establish a constant cooperation channel for the exchange of information between the two countries in order to prevent and combat unfair commercial practices with respect to Geographical Indication products, both offline and online, thus contributing to the protection of reciprocal quality productions. and at the same time the promotion of European practices in this area.
