"Let's get back on the road": the beauty and uniqueness of the monumental trees in the photographic competition organized by MIPAAF

The more than 3200 monumental trees, the green patriarchs of our naturalistic heritage, will be the absolute protagonists of the photographic competition promoted by the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies - Directorate-General for Mountain Economy and Forests, "Let's get back on the road". Suggestion and meaningful invitation. Because the path can be the one towards the closest monumental Tree, as towards unexplored places, in search of these majestic symbols of the resistance and resilience of the environment to take a picture, capture the essence and strength of nature, also allow those who cannot reach the sacred guardians of our past, to observe them and discover them in their habitat.

To participate in the photo contest, held on the occasion of World Environment Day, there is time until 15 October 2020.

The rules are essential: the subjects must be only and exclusively the monumental trees inscribed on the official List, available on the Mipaaf website; the photos must highlight valuable elements and show the specimen both as a whole and in the most peculiar details; the shots - maximum three - must be accompanied by a short text that describes the relationship between the tree, the place and the community in which it is rooted, stories and legends or, in any case, the particularities that make it unique.

The most beautiful and significant photos will be rewarded thus becoming the images of the AMI 2021 Calendar and will be published on the website of the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies in the "Monumental trees" section.

"The competition", comments Minister Teresa Bellanova, "wants to be an invitation to discover and learn about an exceptional heritage that we also want to enhance, defend and preserve in this way. Underlining, together with the images and words that accompany them, how the Patriarchs are real points of reference for the territorial communities ".

COMPETITION REGULATION

"Let's get back on the road"

The object of the competition are the AMI - Monumental Trees of Italy, present in the National List drawn up pursuant to Law no. 10/2013 and the Decree of 23 October 2014 and available on the website of the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies at https://www.politicheagricole.it/flex/cm/pages/ServeBLOB.php/L/IT/IDPagina/15290 .

Participants in the competition will be able to send photographs of the trees on the list that highlight valuable elements and that show the specimen both as a whole and in the most peculiar details. The photos must be accompanied by a short text that describes the relationship between the tree, the place and the community in which it is rooted, stories and legends or, in any case, the particularities that make that tree unique.

PARTICIPATION METHODS

Participation is open to all. Each competitor may submit a maximum of three photographs, including two of the whole tree, one vertical and one horizontal, and one in detail.

Text and photography can be sent to Mipaaf by 15 October 2020, at difor4@politicheagricole.it and, pc, at ami.progetto@gmail.com.

Photographs and text must contain the unique code of the tree (as reported in the AMI list in order to allow the certain identification of the plant) and the name of the author. The photograph, in particular, must be named according to the following structure: AMI _ tree identification code * _ Surname Name of the participant _ number of the photo sent (for a maximum of three).

* The unique tree code can be found in the AMI list and allows you to identify the photographed tree in a certain way. It is composed as follows: progressive number of the plant, ex. 03, Istat code of the Municipality, ex. H420, Istat code of the Province e.g. IS, Istat code of the Region e.g. 14.

TECHNICAL FEATURES

Color photographs are allowed. Photographs must be sent in JPEG format, RGB color profile. The file size must be less than or equal to 5 Mb for each photo. The photographs can be cropped to adapt them to the presentation format.

JURY AND WINNERS

The evaluation of the works will be made by an internal jury and will consist of an overall judgment of photography and text. 13 works will be selected and the winning works will be included in the AMI 2021 Calendar. The winners will also receive a copy of the book "Monumental trees of Italy" and the works will be published on the website of the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, in the "Monumental trees" section. ".

All the photographs and texts received will still be rewarded because they will enrich the national database of the List of monumental trees of Italy, a collective heritage.

The winners will be announced on November 21, 2020 on the occasion of the National Tree Day, the communication will be given on the Mipaaf website in the "Monumental trees" section.

PRIVACY, AUTHOR RESPONSIBILITY AND DISCLAIMER.

The photos cannot depict people with recognizable faces and there must be no brands, logos or commercial signs; photos cannot be subject to intellectual property and signatures, watermarks, frames or marks visible on the image are not allowed.

Each participant declares to be responsible for the material sent to the competition. By participating in the competition, the competitors sign these regulations, implicitly declaring to own the exclusive property of the work, the rights of use and any releases in the event that the tree falls into a private property that is not freely accessible. If this is not the case, the organizers of the competition agree to respond personally and exclude the organizers of the competition from any liability, even towards the subjects depicted in the photographs without permission.

The competitors also agree to authorize the inclusion of their work in the database of the National List of monumental trees, making it a collective heritage, maintaining its authorship but renouncing any exploitation of the connected image.

The organizers reserve the right to exclude from the competition and not to upload photographs in the database which do not conform to the object of the competition or which will not be considered suitable because they are detrimental to personal dignity, religious sentiment, and a common sense of modesty.

In order to enhance its authorship and see its name included in the 2021 calendar, on the Mipaaf website and in any subsequent publications, exclusively related to the theme of the monumental trees of Italy, the author, by participating in the competition, authorizes the Mipaaf to the processing of your personal data.

In summary, the two parties agree to comply with the provisions of Legislative Decree 30 June 2003, n. 196 and of the GDPR (EU Regulation 2016/679).
