S-300 missiles in Poland, just a terrible accident

(To Massimiliano D'Elia) During the work of the G20 in Bali a strange coincidence: the Russians have unleashed a shower of missiles on the Ukrainian lapping the borders with Poland. At least two missiles or only its fragments hit a wheat warehouse in the small Polish village of Przewodov causing two deaths. Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov had to leave the G20 summit as Poland convened its national security committee putting the army on high alert.

The investigations are still ongoing by NATO and the USA and the Stars and Stripes Department speaks of a terribly worrying situation. Thundering is President Zelensky: “Russian missiles hit Poland. Launching missiles on NATO territory is a Russian attack on collective security. It's a very significant escalation. We have to act. We warned you a long time ago and it happened: terror is not limited to our national borders".

While trying to understand the dynamics of the war incident today at the G20, the story will be treated by the greats of the Earth. Poland, on the other hand, will report within NATO. The Republic writes that the Polish broadcaster Radio Zet quotes a military expert, Yaroslav Volsky, who publishes photos taken on the site of the explosion on Twitter, giving two possible versions: "An out-of-control Russian cruise missile, or a Ukrainian air defense missile.” Fragments of a missile would have fallen in Poland series, owned by Russians and Ukrainians, probably fired by Ukrainian anti-aircraft to intercept a Russian long-range missile. This is because Russian S-300s would not be able to get there.

Moscow denies: “There were no attacks near the Polish border. The fragments published by the Polish media have nothing to do with Russian weapons".

Moscow's position has been exacerbated in the last few hours by the UN resolution which blamed war damages on Russia and by Zelensky's speech, who at the G20 in Bali proposed his road map for peace: the withdrawal of the Russians, compensation for war damages, guarantees on nuclear, food and energy security, the release of prisoners and deportees, the restoration of territorial integrity, the prevention of a possible future escalation and registration formal end of the war.

Road Map considered "unrealistic and inadequate" by Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov.

Putin's spokesman Peskov in response announced that Russia would continue to achieve its goals through the special operation, given that Ukraine is unable and unwilling to negotiate. Therefore, at least ninety missiles were launched yesterday alone, leaving about 8 million people in the cold and in the dark.

Let's hope that nobody wants to speculate on the incident that took place in Poland to exacerbate and widen the conflict. Today we need to keep our feet firmly on the ground, trying to bring the parties to a credible truce prodromal to an acceptable and lasting peace. Surprises, however, are just around the corner and the international situation still remains very fluid, gripped by the energy and climate crisis as well as the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic and inflationary pressures on the economy.
