MIT, De Micheli-Sommaruga interview: rail connections between Italy and Switzerland confirmed

Railway connections between Italy and Switzerland confirmed: this is the outcome of today's meeting between the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Paola De Micheli, and her counterpart and current president of the Swiss Confederation, Simonetta Sommaruga. During the call, there was ample agreement on the need to ensure continuity of passenger transport between the two countries.

The interview was followed by a technical meeting by videoconference, which was attended, in addition to MIT, by the representatives of the Ministry of the Interior, the Italian and Swiss railway companies. During the meeting, organizational solutions were analyzed and identified to ensure compliance with anti-covid measures and the continuity of the transport service which will gradually return to normal in the coming days. The operating procedures will be defined through an interministerial decree.

The Swiss railways will reschedule the regional service which will return to normal by the weekend, with 171 connections between Canton Ticino and Lombardy, carried out by the company TILO (a company with a 50% stake in Trenord-FFS). In particular: from tomorrow to Como-Milan border commuters will be able to change trains at the Chiasso station, where the Italian and Swiss routes stop; towards Varese, on the other hand, it will be necessary to wait for the reactivation of the service by the Swiss railways.
