The decree of 137,2 million euros for cycle paths, cyclostations and securing city cycling circulation has been published in the gazette

The Decree proposed by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Paola De Micheli has been published in the Official Gazette, which assigns 137,2 million euros to local authorities for the design and construction of urban cycle paths, cyclostations and other interventions for the safety of city cycling. .

The breakdown allocates 51,4 million for 2020 annuity and 85,8 million for 2021.

The provision, in line with the Relaunch Decree which introduces incentives for the purchase of bicycles and scooters and provides for some changes to the Highway Code also implemented to mitigate the risks associated with the Covid-19 emergency, allocates resources to the Municipalities and to Metropolitan Cities based on the resident population.

A second criterion refers to the reward acquired by all those Bodies that have already adopted or approved a PUMS (Urban Sustainable Mobility Plan). In defining the resources, the principle of territorial rebalancing in favor of the Southern Regions was also considered.

In line with these distribution criteria, established jointly with the local authorities, in the two-year period 2020/2021 the Southern Regions will be assigned resources for 45,9 million euros and the Central-Northern regions resources for 87,1 million euros. To these amounts, an additional share of resources equal to 4,2 million euros is added, destined for the municipalities with the registered office of a university institution, to allow the design and construction of cyclostations and favor the intermodality of connections between the poles. university and railway stations.

The resources indicated represent a solid starting point for the sector, both in view of the adoption by the MIT of the General Plan of Cycling Mobility as the main tool for planning future resources, and with reference to the "Biciplan", already drawn up or under development by local authorities.
