Tolkien exhibition, over 80 thousand visitors. Sangiuliano: “Extraordinary success”

A great success for “TOLKIEN. Man, Professor, Author", the exhibition conceived and promoted by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the University of Oxford and inaugurated last November 15th at the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome by the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, in the presence of the President of the Senate, Ignazio La Russa, and the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni

The exhibition, between 15 November 2023 and 11 February 2024, recorded 80.226 visitors, of which 2.091 on the last day.

"The exhibition on Tolkien was an extraordinary success in terms of content, underlined by the great participation of the public, many more visitors than those who go to the National Gallery of Modern Art. The debate that developed around this exhibition, even among those who intended to criticize it, was also positive because when we discuss literature it is always a good thing. In fact, some of Tolkien's values remain: solidarity, friendship, the defense of nature and above all the protection of humanity, of the individual with his spirituality that a certain nihilism would like to erase”, commented Minister Sangiuliano.

The exhibition, after the first stop in Rome, will arrive in Naples at the Royal Palace from March 15th to June 30th and, subsequently, will also reach the cities of Turin and Catania.
