A vast operation by the State Police, coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of the Prosecutor of the Republic of Reggio Calabria, is under way from the early hours of this morning, aimed at the execution of 21 pre-trial detention orders in prison issued against historical leaders, elements top, lieutenants and affiliates of the powerful gangs of the 'Ndrangheta DE STEFANO-TEGANO and BOOKS operating in the city of Reggio Calabria, held responsible, for various reasons, for the mafia association, various extortions to the detriment of entrepreneurs and traders, detention and illegal port of weapons, aggravated by the mafia method and facilitation. The investigators of the Mobile Squad of the Reggio Calabria Police Headquarters and of the Central Operational Service of the Central Anti-Crime Directorate of the State Police, assisted by the operators of the Crime Prevention Departments and other Mobile Teams of Southern, Central and Northern Italy, are also carrying out numerous searches and some seizures of companies. About 200 police officers were employed.
The details of the operation will be announced during a press conference to be held at 11.00 am in the conference room of the Police Headquarters of Reggio Calabria, in the presence of the Public Prosecutor Giovanni Bombardieri, the Anti-Crime Central Director Francesco Messina, the Quaestor of Reggio Calabria Maurizio Vallone and the Central Operational Director Fausto Lamparelli.
