The agreement provides for the creation of a state-of-the-art environmental platform, capable of handling up to 60 tons of special waste per year. The initiative represents an example of industrial symbiosis aimed at minimizing disposal in favor of material and energy recovery.

Eni and the Hera Group, through the subsidiaries Eni Rewind and Herambiente, signed today, in the presence of the Mayor of Ravenna Michele de Pascale, an agreement for the establishment of a joint venture which, by pooling the technical and management know-how of the two companies, will build a multifunctional platform for the pretreatment and treatment of special waste in the industrial area of Ravenna.

The initiative aims to make a concrete contribution to the structural shortage of plants for the management of special waste in Italy and to maximize the recovery of materials and energy.

In particular, the platform, whose authorization process will be launched in 2021, will manage up to 60 thousand tons / year of waste produced by environmental activities and production activities, including those of the territory, in a circular perspective and in line with European directives. of the “Circular Economy Package” implemented by Italy last September. The multipurpose platform will be equipped with the best technologies available and will be built in a portion of the “Ponticelle” site owned by Eni Rewind, close to the industrial area and the port of Ravenna. For the development and operation of the plant, Eni Rewind will be responsible for the procurement process of solid and liquid waste treatment services and Herambiente will operationally manage the plant.

«This is an important agreement - commented the mayor of Ravenna Michele de Pascale - which establishes the final safety and reclamation of a former industrial area now abandoned, where a technologically advanced project will be carried out. A virtuous intervention that makes us protagonists in relation to the theme of the circular economy, which is important for the economic development of the city and which will therefore also be a topic for further study by the City Council. On our territory today a first fundamental collaboration between two important industrial groups such as Eni and Herambiente is taking place, which could also bring significant benefits of employment and economic growth for the community in the future ».

«The agreement with Herambiente - declared Paolo Grossi, CEO of Eni Rewind - integrates and gives added value to the Eni Ponticelle project, which aims to regenerate an industrial area according to the principles of the circular economy. In Ponticelle we are completing the environmental interventions in the area on which in the coming months Eni will build a photovoltaic park and a plant for the biological treatment of the land, with an attached analysis and research laboratory. Ponticelle is an emblematic project of our operating model: sustainable, circular and modulated following a constructive discussion with the stakeholders of the territory ».

"Growth and innovation are in Herambiente's DNA and the alliance with qualified partners such as Eni, of which we are proud, perfectly meets these values - declared Andrea Ramonda, CEO of Herambiente -. The new platform, which will replace the existing one, integrates and further enhances the already rich plant equipment dedicated to waste produced by companies and perfectly matches our recently renewed mission: to offer sustainable and innovative solutions to companies and communities, creating value and new resources ".
