Google was born in 1998 today

The 4 September 1998 born the Google company. One year before, the search engine, the most visited website in the world, appeared for the first time on the web. Registering the brand, which today appears on the screen of millions and millions of people, were two Stanford students: Larry Page and Sergey who founded Google Inc. in the garage of a Santa Margherita Avenue, in the heart of the Californian Silicon Valley . The intuition was that of a search engine based on the mathematical analysis of the relations between websites, and therefore on the belief that the pages with a greater number of links were the most important. Over time, the company has ended up dealing with photos, newsgroups, news, maps, e-mails, shopping, translations, videos and programs to become the current media giant.

The choice of the name refers to the vastness of the project that the two carry forward. Google comes from googol, term used by the mathematician Edward Kasner to translate the 1 number followed by 100 zeros. Since the googol domain is already existing, the two opt for a new version also playing with the assonance with the verb to Googgle (what does it mean "Rubbing eyes" for the surprise of what we could find).

Il 27 September 1998 the beta version of Google com, already able to answer 10.000 queries a day. From here is a growing unstoppable that already at the end of the year brings Google in the list of the first 100 sites compiled by the magazine PCMagazine. At the same time the company increases its staff, to the point that one year later it will move into the new and definitive home of Mountain View, in the so-called Googleplex. The aim of the young Larry Page was to revolutionize the world and it will succeed: Google will radically change in a few years not only the virtual world, but also and above all the real world.
