Elderly murder: the State Police arrest the victim's granddaughter

The Matera State Police arrested a 26-year-old girl for the murder of her 91-year-old grandfather in the victim's home in Marconia on 7 January this year.

The investigations, conducted by the policemen of the Matera Flying Squad and the Pisticci Public Safety Commissioner, and coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Matera Court, led to contesting the woman, also the aggravating circumstance of having acted with cruelty in the against his relative, who was being cared for by his alleged murderer. In fact, the victim had been hit by 26 stab wounds in the front and back of the chest, and by 11 stick strokes, most of them violent in the head.

The investigations revealed from the outset a picture of strong family conflict, between the deceased, his children and grandchildren, and between the grandchildren themselves, for mainly economic reasons.

Already from the first inspection, the conviction emerged that the murder had accrued within the family or, in any case, that the same had been committed by a person known by the victim.

However, the investigators investigated in all directions: telephone, environmental and telematic interceptions were carried out, the cameras installed in Marconia were viewed, telephone records were acquired, telephone cell traffic data acquired, GPS data of interest acquired, and the police carried out them. Scientific a series of technical-scientific assessments of a biological, product and fingerprint comparison type.

The investigations assumed that a violent dispute broke out between the grandfather and the grandson and that the latter had acted on impulse attacking the grandfather with violence, without being able to contain his anger which led her, then, to inflict on the grandfather the numerous stab wounds and various blows to the club on the head.

There are many and unambiguous indications against the girl: first of all, the time of the man's death, according to the medico-legal findings, was placed between 13 and 14 on 07 January, and was therefore compatible with the presence in the house of the nephew.

Furthermore, at the request of the investigators to deliver the frames of the cameras of her home, the woman provided them all but three, precisely those who framed the moment of her leaving the house to go to her grandfather's home on the morning of the murder. In those frames, which were then extrapolated, the woman was immortalized dressed in the clothes and (above all) the shoes she wore at the time of the murder.

A few days after the murder, the environmental interception in the car of the woman recorded that the same, traveling along the SP Right Basentana (Pozzitello - San Basilio), reached a staging area, stopped for about thirty seconds, in where the driver took something from the seat, got out of the car and went back in immediately. The investigators immediately found on the spot a pair of Adidas shoes number 38 fuchsia, of the same type, model and color as those that the girl wore on the morning of the murder when leaving the house, and immortalized in the cameras of her home. Just those frames had not been delivered by the same to the police.

On the point, the woman fell several times in contradiction, denying that the shoes found along the way were hers, declaring that hers were still in her grandfather's house (where they were not found), and even denying that she stopped in the rest area , in stark contrast to the evidence recorded in the environmental interception.

The scientific police tests on the shoes then revealed that the shoes found in the ditch had been washed with a detergent, and that they also had clean cuts and removals, voluntarily made, on the hard rubber of both soles; they were also free of laces and insoles. All this leads us to think that whoever got rid of it, wanted to make every trace of those shoes disappear. At the same, a scientific police examination recognized a relationship of compatibility with an imprint formed by impression with the blood of the deceased, and found on the scene of the crime.

In addition, traces of mixed DNA were found both on the sweatshirt she wore on the day of the murder, and on the stick used to hit the man.

Conversely, no traces of another person other than the victim and the woman were found throughout the home.

The woman is currently restricted to the women's section of the Trani prison.
