Yesterday at the UN there was still black smoke at the Security Council over the text of the resolution for a truce in the fighting in Gaza. Meanwhile, the number of victims is increasing hour by hour, reaching a record figure of twenty thousand deaths, considering a conflict that began only two and a half months ago in a very small part of territory.
Biden yesterday defined the 20 deaths as "a tragedy" even though he twice imposed a veto at the UN on the texts of several previous resolutions.
The Washington Post had access to the resolution that will be debated today and highlighted that the words "cease-fire" could be replaced with an urgent suspension of hostilities to allow safe and unhindered humanitarian access.
Semantics reign supreme in seeking an acceptable solution to avoid the veto of one of the five permanent members - the United States, Russia, China, France and the United Kingdom.
Despite the good intentions of the Security Council, the Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu he wants to continue his campaign until the end, until the total destruction of Hamas.
HamasInstead, he hopes for a permanent ceasefire to stop the massacre of civilians and especially children, proposing as a counterpart the release of the 108 live hostages and the return of the 29 bodies of those who died, the causes of which are still to be ascertained.

Yesterday the head of the Hamas political office, Ismail Haniyeh, flew to Egypt to discuss with the Egyptian Minister of Intelligence Abbas Kamel to end the aggression and the war to prepare an agreement to release hostages and prisoners and end the siege on the Gaza Strip.
Haniyeh also met in Doha with the Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian.
Qatar and Egypt, in fact, are the main players in the difficult work of mediation which in these hours, barring some last minute twists and turns, could be announced to the world by granting (in primis) the entry of humanitarian aid for a population, the Palestinian population of Gaza, exhausted by a conflict in the city centre.
