Red Gold: the fight against copper theft continues

Operation "Red Gold": 2.000 controlled persons, of whom 1 arrested and 6 investigated: these are the results of the day of extraordinary checks by the State Police against the phenomenon of copper theft in the railway sector

2.000 controlled persons, 1 arrested person, 6 people reported, 150 kg of seized copper, 5 high administrative penalties for a total amount of about 7.300 euros: this is the budget of the "Red Gold" operation organized by the Railway Police throughout the territory national for the fight against the phenomenon of copper theft in the railway sector.

The activity saw the total employment of 716 operators and resulted in 291 checks at the scrap dealers, 133 patrolling services along the railway lines and 49 on the road.

In Turin, the Information Team of the Railway Police Department for Piedmont and Valle d'Aosta, during the checks carried out within two companies in the Turin area, investigated the legal representatives of the same in the state of freedom, in the matter of crimes environmental; one for waste management (consisting of a hundred kg of copper cables and two uncarredited microcars) without the required authorization, and the other for the management of hazardous waste consisting of lead batteries, as it was also found to be it without proper authorization. As part of the controls, three administrative penalties were also raised for a total of 7.233 euros, as required by the Environmental Consolidation Act.

The Polfer staff of Taormina during the checks investigated the owner of an unauthorized waste management activity. The waste present had been disposed of differently from the authorization. The 1.000 sq m area was subjected to preventive seizure.

The Agents of the Cassino Railway Police Station, in collaboration with the PS Commissariat of Sora, during the control of a deposit of ferrous material in Sora (FR), found in a container 150 Kg of copper composed of cables and pipes used exclusively by the Italian State Railways; the owner of the warehouse and one of his collaborators, surprised by the attempt to get away with some of the material, were reported in a state of freedom for the crime of receiving stolen goods. In addition, three men unrelated to the company were identified in the deposit of ferrous material, who had hidden among the wrecks during the checks. All the material was seized.

Finally, the staff of the Judicial Police team of the Lazio Railway Police Department arrested a XNUMX-year-old Italian citizen who received an order for precautionary custody in prison for numerous crimes all attributable to family abuse.
