The attack took place in the Gandawa area of ​​the Jhal Magsi district in the Baluchistan province, rich in crude oil and natural gas on the border with Iran and Afghanistan, during the annual celebration of a local saint in the region. The suicide bomber blew himself up after being intercepted by the policemen guarding the sanctuary.

The premier, Shahid Khaqan Abbasim, commenting on the attack, said: "The terrorists have no religion and the murders of the people of Baluchistan are enemies of the state."

Last November, 52 people were killed following another suicide bombing organized by ISIS, or Daesh, at another mosque in the Hub district, always in Beluchistan, south of Jhal Magsi. Subsequently, in February of this year, in the neighboring province of Sindh, killing 88 people.

The attack was claimed by Isis through the Amaq news agency.
