Parma: a garden dedicated to people with Alzheimer's

It is the Alzheimer's Garden Don Antonio Moglia, in Compiano, a state-of-the-art therapeutic site, born at the Residenza Anziani Rossi Sidoli House, situated in a monumental and environmental monumental setting.

The Alzheimer Garden was created with the aim of reducing behavioral problems and time space disorientation of patients, reducing the use of psychoactive drugs and the use of restraint, as well as stimulating remote memory in relation to their previous activities, such as for example cultivating the vegetable garden, taking care of the flowers, walking in the garden and compensating in this way the cognitive and functional deficits caused by dementia.

A guided tour where patients with this particular disease can move freely, without danger, in paved walkways or in green spaces without any obstacles where they can stimulate residual capacity and slow down the decline in functional capabilities.

In addition to being an alternative and innovative therapeutic tool with respect to the care of the catwalks, the garden also serves as a place for relatives for the guest's family and for the area's upgrading, giving space to moments of aggregation and sharing.

The Compiano Garden project has foreseen several vegetation species to represent as many therapeutic aspects as possible. Large and shaded parking areas with perimeter benches have been provided, so they can encourage collective gatherings and recreational activities.

It was also thought of a unique route, directly accessible from the common areas of the northwest wing of the structure, without architectural barriers, free of bifurcations and crossings, to ensure the host's freedom of movement and allow the caregivers to have continuous visual inspection it's direct. The garden therefore guarantees maximum enjoyment, in total safety, by the elderly, with a lighting system that makes it accessible even in the evening.
