(by Massimiliano D'Elia) After about 50 minutes of conversation with President Mattarella it is clear to Prime Minister Conte the need to strengthen the majority with the creation of a homogeneous group that allows to ensure, over time, certainty in the Chamber and in the Commissions the numbers in favor of his government. What to do then? Look for at least 5 other senators and set up a centrist group. Password: do it quickly because next week there will be a vote in Palazzo Madama on the report by Alfonso Bonafede and the government risks entering into crisis again.

According to rumors leaked from the press, two or three Renzians are about to re-enter the Democratic Party to which three other Forza Italia senators could be added ready to join the Maie, the new centrist group. On the refugees of Forza Italia, Lega and Fratelli d'Italia are on a rampage asking for reassurance from Silvio Berlusconi.

The people's advocate, however, is not at all serene because within the Movement and the Democratic Party there is an increasing air of distrust. The long-time politicians, the so-called "peones", do not want to leave Conte the opportunity to grow and strengthen himself even at the political level with his own list capable of attracting all the parliamentarians of the center and, in the not too distant future, make him lose consents to the Democratic Party and the M5S in the political elections.

Beyond the fears of some parliamentarians of his majority, Conte continues with his project that I would define diabolical for the way in which it is taking place. Corsera writes that at the center of the Giallorossi plot there is a Berlusconian senator, Luigi Vitali, and then three other Italians whose names have already circulated, among the denials: Minuto, Minardo, Tiraboschi. Whoever enters the majority, will constitute with the five senators of the Maie - and perhaps with Maria Rosaria Rossi the new group necessary to balance the parliamentary committees of the Senate, otherwise in the hands of the opposition. In these hours he is also dealing with the UDC. In the ranks of IV the senators Comincini, Grimani and perhaps even Marino would be ready to rejoin the Democratic Party, while contacts with Sbrollini and Parente would be intense.

The oppositions, however, do not stand by and watch. Today the center-right will speak with one voice, they will go to Colle to discuss the crisis with the President and ask for the dissolution of the Houses to bring forward the elections. In the current chess game, it is also possible that more than one pentastellated senator may pass to the League, thus thwarting Conte's efforts in the frantic search to enlist "responsible" senators in his new political group.

It is a matter of days, sooner or later the knots will come to roost.

Chess game in progress, the Senators of the Republic are up for grabs
