State Police. Bilateral cooperation with Turkey

As part of bilateral cooperation with Turkey, a delegation from the PS Department led by the Director of the International Relations Service of the Office for Coordination and Planning of Police Forces took place in Ankara in recent days. Dr. Eufemia ESPOSITO, for the in-depth study of the cooperation initiatives to be developed in specific sectoral areas. The meeting, as a result of the second edition of the technical table on Italian-Turkish cooperation, held in Rome in September 2021, assumed particular strategic value in view of the preparation of a possible visit by the Minister of the Interior to Ankara.

Head of delegation from the Turkish side, confirming the importance that the exercise represents for both states, the Deputy Director General of the Turkish National Police Erhan Gülveren, flanked, in the final debriefing meeting, also by the Chief of the National Police Mehmet AKTAŞ.

The meetings, held in a climate of collaboration and mutual trust, dealt with the issues of greatest interest for relations between the two States, such as the analysis of migration flows, the planning of joint capacity building interventions to be carried out in third countries. origin of the main threats, also by making use of funds made available by the European Union and the strengthening of information-investigative exchanges. Cooperation in the field of preventing and combating terrorism has been the subject of great attention, also in light of Turkey's strategic position in the current geopolitical scenario and in relation to its geographical position, and finally the issues of anti-drug cooperation, of the cybercrime and training, also identifying concrete projects of cooperation and exchanges in the field of scientific police and technological research for security but also assuming joint training between the respective special departments.

More generally, the visit constituted an important opportunity to share experiences in contrasting the main criminal phenomena affecting both countries, identifying those sectors that could be the subject of a strengthening of the already fruitful cooperation between the respective police forces.
