During investigations coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Ravenna, during a joint operation between the State Police and the Financial Police of Ravenna, a cargo ship flying the flag of the Marshall Islands was checked, which arrived in Ravenna during at night and coming from northern Europe.
In particular, the inspection was carried out in depth with the important contribution of the divers of the Rimini Aeronaval Operations Department of the Guardia di Finanza, who scanned the submerged part of the hull, finding, after several hours of activity and despite the difficulties linked to the terrible meteorological-marine conditions, different casings, inside the sea intake pipes, located approximately 9 meters deep from the waterline, certainly unrelated to the ship's equipment. The operators, therefore, proceeded to extract said wrappers, handing them over to the anti-drug investigators of the Flying Squad and the Economic and Financial Police Unit in charge of the investigations, who promptly verified their contents: 139 blocks containing pure cocaine for a total of approximately 150 kilograms carefully protected by waterproof packaging designed to safeguard the integrity of the precious cargo.
The operation, based on the broader context of combating international drug trafficking, was carried out in constant collaboration with the Central Directorate for Anti-Drug Services and the Central Operational Service of the State Police of Rome.
The result achieved highlights the importance of constant monitoring by the police of the flow of goods in the important port of Ravenna and of combating any possible infiltration by crime into the socio-economic fabric. economic. In this sense, in fact, it can be stated that the seizure carried out has significantly affected the supply of cocaine at a national level, given that the value of the recovered drugs can be reasonably estimated at over five million euros wholesale and around 25.000.000 euros if compared to retail sales (310 thousand doses).
