State Police: operation in Catania against animal abuse

The Catania State Police carried out checks aimed at combating the illegality spread in the Librino district and in the Vaccarizzo area with specific reference to the protection of animals. In particular, a kennel / shelter was hosted which housed 55 dogs and other animals such as horses, sheep, geese, goats, oxes and pigs which, as ascertained during police checks, were held in conditions incompatible with their productive nature of severe suffering.

In this regard, the total lack of interest in animals and the total neglect with which the 2 conductors managed the refuge emerged; specifically, the puppies lacked water or was putrid, exposed to the sun and inside there were also dead animals such as cockroaches and the like; there was a lack of food and some dogs were tied up with a chain and forced to live in places with previous excrement and dirt.

The two managers, in light of the findings, have been investigated in a state of freedom, for the detention of animals in conditions incompatible with their nature. Faced with the evidence of the facts, they admitted their responsibilities by providing, after warnings from police officers, to restore the welfare conditions of these animals.

The suspects hosted dogs entrusted to them by municipal authorities and from situations of maltreatment perceiving economic donations for the care of animals.
