In the first half of the year 2022, a total of 19,8 million certificates were received, 76,1% from the private sector, with an overall increase compared to the same period of 2021 equal to + 60,5%.

The evidence relating to the first quarter of 2022 is strictly connected to the trend of the pandemic; in fact, especially with reference to the month of January and therefore immediately after the Christmas period, there was a sharp rise in infections. In the first quarter of 2022, 11,9 million sickness certificates were received, almost equal to the number of certificates produced in the entire first half of 2021 (12,3 million). The increase in the trend trend of certificates, in the first quarter of 2022, compared to the same period of the previous year, was 78,1%, while as regards the second quarter this increase was 39,5% compared to the previous year. value 2021.

In both years, the cyclical variation between the first and second quarters is negative, more moderate in 2021 (-16,1%) and higher in 2022 (-34,3%).

Certified by geographical area, gender and age group

Analyzing the data in more detail, it is noted that the increase in certificates with reference to the first quarter of the two years considered (overall greater than 78%), is greater in central Italy (+ 94,4%) than in the north (+75,2 , 72,3%) and in the south (+ 81%), is higher for men (+ 125,4%) and is much higher for younger ages (+ 29% in the 'up to 55,8' class) and much less for the more advanced ages (+ 50% for the '42,0s and over' class). The same considerations apply to the second quarter of the two years (apart from the gender for which the increase is higher for women: + 36,9% compared to +5,6 for men) when the number of certificates passes from 2021 million in 7,8 to 2022 million in 39,5, with a more contained increase (+ XNUMX%), although still very substantial.

Total sick days

In the first quarter of 2022 there were approximately 51,1 million in the private sector and 14,6 million in the public sector, with an increase of 49,9% and 48,6% respectively compared to the same value in 2021. Despite the sick days indicated in the certificates are decidedly higher in the first quarter of 2022 than in 2021, with reference to the average values, there is in general a decrease in the periods of illness: on average, the days of sickness per certificate in the first quarter of 2022 were 5,6 in the sector private (against 6,9 in the first quarter of 2021) and 5,2 in the public sector (against 5,6 in 2021). The average sick days for each worker with at least one sick day went from 13,7 in the first quarter of 2021 to 10,7 in the first quarter of 2022 for the private sector and from 10,6 to 11,2 for the public sector .

In the second quarter of 2022 there were approximately 32 million in the private sector and 10 million in the public sector, with an increase of respectively 21,5% and 31,8% compared to the same value in 2021. As regards the average values, also in In the second quarter there was a reduction in periods of sickness: on average, the sick days per certificate were 5,4 in the private sector (against 6,2 in the second quarter of 2021) and 5,1 in the public sector (against 5,5 of 2021). The average sick days for each worker with at least one sick day went from 11,5 in the second quarter of 2021 to 9,8 in the second quarter of 2022 for the private sector and from 10,2 to 9,9 for the public sector .

Inspection activity

In the first quarter of 2022, approximately 296 thousand tax visits were carried out, an increase of 34,5% compared to the same period of the previous year, even if in relative terms the average number of visits per thousand certificates is decreasing (from 33 to 25 ). The increase observed is much greater for the public sector than for the private sector (+ 66,6% vs + 3,4%) and this may be due to the gradual return to the presence of most public employees with consequent less use of smart working. In relative terms, in the public sector, the number of medical examinations per thousand received certificates is slightly increasing from 62 for the first quarter of 2021 to 65 for the same period of 2022, while in the private sector the index is decreasing (23 vs 13).

With reference to the territorial distribution, the North has the lowest positive change in the number of visits made (+ 9,7% vs + 49,7% in the Center and + 51,1% in the South), while were men (+ 35,9% vs 33,6% of women) and workers under the age of 30 (+ 47,3%).

In the second quarter of 2022, a total of 302 thousand tax visits were carried out, an increase of 26,1% compared to the second quarter of 2021. This increase is more evident for visits carried out in the private sector than in the public one (+ 48,3% vs + 10,7%) while in relative terms the average number of visits per thousand certificates is slightly decreasing (from 43 to 39), a more marked trend in the public sector (from 103 to 81). The highest percentages of positive variation can be found in the territorial area of ​​the Center (+ 41,4%), in the male gender (+ 42,4%) and in the younger age group (+ 71,2%).
