Putin today in Tehran

The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, will meet today the supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, during his visit to Tehran. This was said by the spokesman of the Kremlin, Dmitrij Peskov, who illustrated the progress of the visit already announced in Iran. “The president will be on a working visit to Iran. There will be a Russian-Iranian bilateral talks. Once he lands in Tehran, the president will meet with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rohani and there will also be talks in extended format. In addition there will be a meeting with the supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, ”Peskov said. In the Iranian capital, a trilateral at the level of heads of states is planned which will involve Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran, focusing on the development of the North-South international transport corridor. As stated by the Azerbaijani foreign minister Elmar Mammadyarov, "the first trilateral meeting of the heads of state, as you will recall, was held in Baku, and now it will be in Tehran". “The parties have expressed great interest in the matter. Azerbaijan agrees with the granting of a loan to Iran for the construction of the remaining section of the railway ”, continued the minister of Baku. Mammadyarov stressed that the project is of great interest not only for the participating countries, but also for exporting nations such as India and Vietnam. The North-South International Transport Corridor is expected to connect northern Europe to Southeast Asia, and will connect the railways of Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia.
