Russia: Deputy of the Duma accused of harassment

Three different Russian journalists have accused of harassment the president of the Russian Duma's Foreign Affairs Committee, Leonid Slutsky, who denies the accusations and threatens lawsuits.

The case exploded after Elizaveta Antonova asked Vladimir Zhirinovsky, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party to which Slutsky belongs, whether she was aware that her party mate "constantly harassed young journalists ". The same complaint was made the next day to the same television station by two other journalists, who asked to remain anonymous.

Immediate the response of the deputy Oksana Pushkina who promised to reintroduce a bill on parity that includes measures against harassment held in committee by the 2003.

Pushkina, in an interview with RBC stated that “There are no rules for prosecuting harassment at work. When this happens, women remain silent, or at best, quit their jobs ”.

Presidential candidate Ksenya Sobchak has asked the Duma to open an investigation into harassment against Slutsky for behavior not in line with her mandate. In Russia the Weinstein affair and the resulting #Meetoo movement had hitherto been mocked as a result of criticized political correctness.
