Russia, Iran and Turkey meet in Astana to discuss the Syrian peace process

On March 16, the foreign ministers of Russia, Iran and Turkey will discuss the Syrian crisis agreement in Astana as promoters of the peace process in Syria.

The news was announced in a press release by the Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry. "According to information received from the states guaranteeing the Astana trial on Syria - it says -, the foreign ministers of Iran, Russia and Turkey are planning to meet in the Kazakh capital on March 16".

The parties are preparing to evaluate the results obtained in the first year of cooperation on resolving the crisis in Syria and to outline future joint actions. "On the eve of the talks, on March 15 - continues the note -, it is planned to hold a meeting of senior officials, as well as a meeting of the joint working group and the one on the release of detainees / hostages, the transfer of bodies of the fallen and the search for missing persons ”.

The trilateral meeting is expected to take place without the participation of Syrian observers and parties, however the UN Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, will be invited to take part in the talks.

The announcement of these new talks in Astana comes as the Syrian regime continues the bombing of the rebel enclave of eastern Ghouta, just outside Damascus. The air offensive has killed nearly 770 people since February 18.
