Russia: Navalnyi, Russian opposition activist, will be released today, at the expiration of the 20 days of administrative detention

According to the NOVA Agency, the Russian opposition activist, Alexei Navalnyj, will be released today after 20 days of administrative detention, imposed for repeated violation of the rules on the organization of rallies and demonstrations. Navalny is scheduled to be released in the morning. According to earlier reports from his staff, the activist will travel to Astrakhan for a meeting with his supporters immediately after his release. On 2 October the Simonovskij Moscow Court issued a detention order for 20 days for the reiteration of the violations of rules on public demonstrations. Navalny was arrested on 29 September when he left his home for inviting the citizens of Nizhny Novgorod to take part in an unauthorized gathering in Markina Square on the same day. On 6 October, the Moscow Court upheld his administrative arrest.

According to what was declared this week by the president of the Central Electoral Commission of Russia, Ella Pamfilova, the exponent of the opposition in Russia Navalnyj "has misunderstood the Constitution": he will be able to run for the presidency of the country no earlier than 2028. According to the Russian official, "On social networks, aspiring lawyers are trying to introduce the false information that there is a provision of the Constitution according to which Navalnyj has the right to participate in elections, but this is not true", said Pamfilova, specifying that several years ago the Constitutional Court confirmed this interpretation.

The President of the Commission added that according to current legislation, Navalnyj could only attend the presidential elections in Russia after the 2028, being currently involved in judicial proceedings.
