Russia-United States: Joint declaration on Syria agreed

According to Nova Agency, Russian and US presidents, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, had a short talk on the second day of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit, ongoing in Da Nang, Vietnam .

During this brief meeting, according to reports from the Russian news agency "Sputnik", the two heads of state approved a joint declaration on Syria. The document was prepared by teams of technicians from the two countries and agreed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson yesterday.

According to the Kremlin spokesman, Dmitrij Peskov, the statement was specifically prepared in view of the meeting in Da Nang. Despite therefore, for now, there has not been a formal bilateral agreement - as initially announced by the Russian side and then denied by the White House -, the two presidents in this brief briefing would still have managed to find a point of agreement on one of the main issues of the international agenda.

Russian agencies have announced that the agreement excludes a military solution to the resolution of the Syrian crisis.

Lavrov and Tillerson also had a brief meeting of about ten minutes on the sidelines of the work of the APEC summit.
