Salvini's nightmare: going into opposition with a Conte government with a majority of PD-M5S

(by Massimiliano D'Elia) A decisive week for the Government. The node on autonomy has become too thorny for Matteo Salvini, the north is in turmoil. Last night the Northern League leader “thundered":"We are in government only to do important things. If we fail, we will go alone but we will not stop. We do not accept a no, the government passes by the Autonomies. We have waited too long".

On the Autonomies, for now a brief skirmish has been played on the Corriere della Sera, a question and answer with open letters, between the premier Giuseppe Conte and the two governors leaguers Attilio Fontana and Luca Zaia.

Giuseppe Conte. "Enough with the insults", he claims the work done and assures that he will meet the governors.

The two governors. "We are injured by Conte's words, we do not sign a farce, we want true autonomy".

Salvini, sources close to him tell us, will wait for the summit on Tuesday afternoon at Palazzo Chigi before making a decision on autonomy. But in Adro Salvini's meeting he is clear on the political situation: "I will no longer accept a minute of being in government with those who say no. Whatever decision I will take, I will take it for my children ", stresses the vice prime minister attacking the M5S frontally for the vote to von der Leyen:" those who are with Macron and Merkel in Europe cannot stay in Italy with the League".

Palazzo Chigi does not like Salvini's crisis threats, through social media and meetings, and replies: "There is a government that, farther from the threats, works feverishly ", government sources note, recalling the very dense agenda of meetings that Conte has had and will have in the coming days, when it will also see the social partners. The government, it is emphasized at Palazzo Chigi, goes ahead for the premier because there are so many things to do for Italy

Di Maio, on the other hand, is preparing the offensive on the cut of parliamentarians. A reform that, according to the Movement, does not like the League that is accused of wanting to break the government to prevent its launch. As for the Autonomy, the M5S leader: "The Movement reiterates how the reform is in the contract and for the Five Stars it must be done. The revolt of the governors is nothing more than the opening of an internal front to the League".

Di Maio, meanwhile, distances himself from the dispute Conte, Governatori and spoke only of the minimum wage, an issue on which the League comes under attack. "Those who hold back the measure stab the workers".

But Salvini reads from the facts a new threatening danger, Giuseppe Conte. The President of the Council in office over the months it has increasingly carved out a leading role much appreciated by the Italians. Four points stand out Matteo Salvini da Giuseppe Conte in the index of liking among the voters. In the survey carried out by Ipsos from 16 to 18 July for the Corriere della Sera it emerges that the popularity of the President of the Council grows of 6 points compared to June and arrives at 58% in the rating of satisfaction, remaining front to the two vice presidents. As well as the government, despite the continuous internal tensions, confirms the own consent which is actually increasing compared to the past month of 9 points: 54% of positive votes on the total of opinions expressed by the interviewees.

But the greatest fear for the leader of the Carroccio, according to some rumors of yesterday in the major newspapers, is a Government Count with a majority M5S - PD with the opposition League. A kind of nightmare for Salvini that would make him many sleepless nights. The Northern League leader would be harnessed by the umpteenth palace maneuvers. If Salvini's nightmare becomes reality it would be another slap in the face to the Italians who voted in the European elections, decreeing Salvini as the only leader of a forthcoming government. There seems to be certainty about the fact that in the event of the fall of the government in office there is no immediate going to elections. Giancarlo Giorgetti would have learned the line of the Hill the other evening when in an unusual sortie he went to the Quirinale under the pretext of communicating his "non-candidacy" as European Commissioner.
