Historic record for Aoup, the Pisa hospital-university company which, a few days ago, successfully performed the 2 liver transplant, thus placing itself at the top of the national and international ranking of liver transplant centers both by number and by the quality of the results.
The hospital began the liver transplant program in 1996 under the guidance of Professor Franco Filipponi. Over the years the program has grown a lot, attracting an ever increasing number of patients from the entire region, from Italy but also from abroad.
The activity carried out by Aoup has had a great success over the years as it is based both on the intense regional activity of organ donation and on the intra-company collaboration with the numerous operational units and with the services that have collaborated for years to support and the success of the program.
The company underlines that the 2 liver transplants are the result of "a model of integration of the medical, nursing and technical staff of the company and the existence of a dense network of interprofessional collaboration: an example is the coordination of liver transplants that guarantees operations for donations and transplants 24 hours a day, together with the personnel of the operating unit, the intensive care unit, the operating room and company diagnostic services ".
